Scar on the Railing Top

These scars were made by Katana during the battle between the Shogunate party, Shinsen-gumi, and the anti-Shogunate party at the end of Edo period.
You can find these scars on the second top railing ornament from the western end of Sanjo-Oohashi bridge over the Kamo river.
This area was the 53rd station and the western starting point on the old Tokaido Road between Edo(Tokyo) and Kyoto.
