There were three funeral areas in the old Kyoto.
One of them was Adashino.
Once there were a lot of casualties due to battles and infectious diseases making mounds of dead bodies.
Kobo-daishi gathered those dead bodies and buried , and built a temple to mourn for them here.
There are more than 8000 small stone Buddhas on this grounds.
