Accurate Number of “Sembon Torii” of Fushimi Inari Shrine

Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto is famous for its numerous vermilion torii gates’ tunnel that is called “Sembon Torii”, literally means one thousand toriis. “Sembon Torii” consists of two routes, one is to “Oku no In” and another return from. I’ve been wondering how many torii gates “Sembon Torii” is consisted of precisely for long time.
Yesterday, February 25, I checked its accurate number by counting them three times. The result is that a route to “Oku no In” has 399 and another has 391, 790 altogether. These torii is made of wood and decayed in around 10 years therefore replacement work is done every day.
